We love you Dr. Abiodun Laja
Dr Abiodun Juliana

Dr. Abiodun Laja came, she saw, she conquered.  Her incredible achievements and lifetime commitment to the development of the Nigerian child are without parallel and her philanthropy was noteworthy. She received numerous national and international awards for her work in education and was most recently honored by the Commonwealth University with a Doctor of Education Degree. Although she traveled extensively for her work, she remained fiercely proud of (and loyal to) her Nigerian identity and culture throughout her life. Until her passing to glory on 26th May 2019, she remained a firm believer in the Nigerian child, education, and humanity.  Simply put, Dr. Laja believed her mission was to change lives and she deployed all her strength and substance in pursuit of this objective. She was a woman of great courage who inspired other women to do great things.  She was survived by her children, Francis and Christian Idehen and her grandchildren, Tobias, Jeroham, Joshua and Eli Idehen.

    AN AMAZON DEPARTS

An ebullient, energetic, strong believer in God, her maker. Never missed in a crowd.
An aunt to my wife but you always called me your brother and indeed l had a lot of regards, respect and love for you.
Very kind hearted but grossly misunderstood. I was about to wear for the first time, the fabric you sent me for Xmas just an hour before l got the news. Probably a way of you bidding me farewell.
It was always a pleasure chatting with “Aunty B”.
We always said to each other “Lekki British, no shaking”. Those were turbulent times but you overcame by His grace. Such a dogged fighter. A woman with a lion heart. It was indeed a pleasure serving on the Board of Governors of the School. Thank you for counting me worthy.
As you go, may the angels deliver you into the bosom of the almighty God who you served with all you had. For me, this is one very painful death. I will miss and never forget you.
    Farewell “aunty B”, farewell.

  • Eyitope Kola-Oyeneyin Posted July 1, 2019 3:18 pm

The news came as a rude shock – a bad dream. I can still hear the wailing that came from the room when Kola heard the news.
It’s still unreal. Going to the house and not seeing you there. Your hearty laughter. You sharing the latest “hot gist” on every topic imaginable. Your boldness and faith. Your passion for fashion and the energy you got from strategizing what and what needs to go together to have that “wow” effect. Your hospitality and generosity. Hmmm. Not seeing you smile when I hail you “Mama Laj”! You will be missed!

Thank you for all you were and all you did. Thank you for raising Kola – he is every bit the person you told me he would be. We know you are in the presence of your saviour, in the atmosphere you enjoy the most – worshipping! Your legacy will endure. Rest in perfect peace ma.

    Lots of love,

    Eyitope Kola-Oyeneyin

  • Ms Biodun Owoyele Posted July 1, 2019 3:19 pm

Hummmm! Where do I start this from as am still in great shock at the news of your passing.

We bear the same name- Biodun and coincidentally I was a ” mini- you” . Some people thought we were related.
I met you through Oyinkan, and I remember walking into your office and the way you took to me.

We traveled together , and you cared for me alot.
You were a generous giver, you loved to show people the world, you were a status- changer and above all a great worshipper of God.

Up until now, I didn’t know how to encapsulate your passing, but writing this I feel I have the right words- I feel stripped!!!!
You are now with the Óla lewo làsọ́, Ọ̀gọ́ làsọ́ ilẹ̀kẹ́: Iyin legun lèshin, Àwámàridi Elèdumàre.

Rest in the bosom of our Lord, till we all meet to part no more.

Tribute to my dear Aunty Biodun,
I remember with a heavy heart our last discussion just before you embarked on your last journey. It was on Birthday tributes which led to our discussion on your forthcoming 70th birthday and me being on the planning committee and the plans you had on how to celebrate. But here we are now and what can we say other than – God knows best.
My dear Aunt & My former boss, may your happy, fun loving, bubbly, energetic, impactful, courageous, fearless soul rest in the bosom of the Lord.
Thank you for all that I learnt from you as a member of your family (Aina Soares Descendants) and as your staff / Head of Lekki British Junior School. 10years of working with you was indeed an experience I will forever cherish. You were indeed one of our foremost Educationists in Nigeria. Your legacy will forever live on.
Rest in peace dear Aunty B .

Words cannot describe this difficult moment, but I take comfort in the fact that you fulfilled your mission on earth, which was to touch many lives by your selfless and countless acts of kindness.

You were a devout Christian, a woman of prayer and faith, gentle, peaceful, full of love, caring, kindhearted, warm, generous and a blessing to a lot of people. I consider myself blessed to have been your nephew.

I will forever cherish each and every moment we spent together, from you teasing me about getting married to talking about business ideas and the plans you had for the school – one of your many legacies.

While you are no longer with us, your memories will live on in our hearts forever. Rest well Aunty.

    With love from your nephew,

    We will miss you

will be disturbed for a very long time by your death

You were a big woman with a large heart. Kind and compassionate,

Can’t believe that I will no longer see that beautiful and infectious

smile of yours. One cannot help but smile when you smile at them

You were a star and a pioneer in the field of private schools

in Nigeria, from the A.B.C days at Adeniyi Jones to the LEKKI BRITISH

INTERNATIONAL at Lekki. Your legacy will never be forgotten.

It is a fact of life that we all must someday step off the train of life

when our time is up, but the sudden way you left, wos a shock to many

Let me take solace in the general belief, that you are now in a better place

    and with the Angels

May your Soul continue to Rest in Peace

Whatever I write now are just words on paper and can never really convey the true feelings I have on my mind.

You will always be in my earliest memories. A larger than life figure, gregarious and full of life. My ever smiling and happy-go-lucky aunty.

I always wonder how you came to know so many Yoruba adages that your always seemed to have handy for any and almost all situations (though I suspect that a lot where just things you made up yourself *smile*). There was hardly anything that you didn’t have an answer for.

Your famous dreams with which you used to help and assist so many will always be remembered for good.

I will forever have find memories of our many travels together when we were young and you packed Osa, Irehene, Wole and myself on trips to London, Germany, Italy and the USA.

I thank God for the opportunity of having known you and pray the Most High grant you eternal rest in His bossom as you sing the everlasting hallelujahs in the heavenlies.

    Your nephew,

  • rashidat ademuyiwa Posted July 1, 2019 3:38 pm

My cousin, Biodun, your sudden departure is still incomprehensible to me. Your love and commitment to the wellbeing of your family and whoever comes your way is the greatest legacy you left behind. You made great sacrifices to touch the lives of many.
Biodun, little did I know that you will leave soon. I remember you telling me when i visited you in March 2019 that you are planning your 70th birthday party and that i should make sure i come home. Well, God knows the best you have gone to a better place.
Goodbye Biodun .May your soul rest in peace.

Abbey Lincon Alase ABC as i used to call her.

Your death was a rude shock. It hurts to write this tribute about my friend of over 40 years.

Where do i start from, Biodun was hard working, elegant, generous and very religious. She was nice and at the same time could be temperamental, blowing hot and cold. My ever smiling Biodun, you loved God and served Him to the end. Biodun was a dresser and loved the good things of life. It is unbelievable that you are no more.

May you find peace and rest in your new abode .Eternal Rest grant her oh Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her.

    Goodnight Biodun.

    TRIBUTE TO A DEAR MOTHER
God made a wonderful mother, A mother who is ever caring and loving.
    He made her smile of the sunshine and He moulded her heart of pure gold;
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars.

    In her cheeks fair roses you see;
God made a wonderful mother and He gave her to us all at the Never Drying Fountain Ministry.

We love you so much but your demise was just a proof God loved you more.

Little did I know that our conversation in the early hours of Sunday May 26th 2019 was going to be the last.

You’re indeed a mother with the heart of Gold. Till we see to part no more. Sleep well at the feet of Jesus.

    Dear Aunty,

For as long as I can remember you were our neighbour on Femi Okunnu Road. Few weeks would go by without me seeing a text message or receiving a call from you. My visits to your home always left such a positive impression on my heart. You were the epitome of kindness, love, wisdom and determination. You spoke with such infectious pride about your family and your school, who will all miss you terribly. But God knows best. I’m grateful for the many moments we shared and count myself lucky to be one of the countless lives you touched. I pray that the good Lord grant your soul eternal rest and your family the strength to bear the loss. Rest in peace dearest Aunty,

    with love

  • Olabisi Ifesanya Posted July 1, 2019 3:57 pm

    Sister mi,

It’s a shame that it had been so many years since I had last seen you. But I’m thankful to God that I was able to speak with you in your last few days on earth and thank you for all you’ve done for me.
We had plans to see each other the following week and catch up on lost time, not knowing that it would be the last time I would hear your voice. My children were so eager to meet you as they have heard and read all about you.

Unfortunately I was not able to say everything that I wanted to say to you. Thank you sister mi!! You’ve been an angel to my family, you sent me to Montessori school in England. Where I am today is because of you. Thank you for allowing the Lord to use you to bring restoration to the Laja family.

You are a role model to many and will never be forgotten.

Rest well in the bosom of the Lord Dr Biodun Laja

Love from Mrs Kehinde Ifesanya (Nee Laja)

  • Folasayo Afolabi Posted July 1, 2019 3:57 pm

Although she was family I always called her Ms Laja as I was at Lekki British School for 6 years. Even though her presence was highly revered around school I knew that she had a lot of love in her. Ms Laja would use my cousins and I as examples the few times she’d come into assembly , even if it meant telling us off and I remember on one occasion trying not to laugh and take it seriously. However, she also very much let it be known when needed, and to anyone that we were not the ones to be tried. To be honest it still very much seems unreal that she’s no longer with us as there are certain people that just seem like they’re larger than life. Thank you for all the love and care and the puppies that you gave me

Aunty Biodun (a.k.a Grandma School to Oluwafayokunmi and Oluwafeyikemi),

We miss you so much! Thank you for being a great example of a life well spent – you did everything and gave everything! You were generous, kind, loving and gentle, yet strict!

I can never forget the Frèjon and Fish at Easter, the Puff Puff, Hot Bread and Snacks for all my colleagues and I, the Ikokore and Agbalumo…you would say “don’t mind your mummy, eat jare!!!”

I can never forget being your special ‘account officer’…”Adetoun please send my account balances to my phone”!…running helter skelter to get your transactions done just in time!

I can never forget planning my mum’s 60th in school…you gave me free reign…I was the “BOSS”!

I’ve been told that I was your ‘shadow’ at ABC Nurseryland…following you around, trying to catch your quick footsteps…and the special treatment as “madam’s baby!”

    I can never forget you!

Till we meet to part no more!

    Love,

TRIBUTE TO MY OGA. DR ABIODUN LAJA.

Dr Abiodun Laja, my Oga. I hold the fun memories we share like bandages to an ever-bleeding wound. The beautiful times, the hard times we shared. So many things that even eternity can not contain.

She was generous like an angel, she loved with purity. She gave everyone the joy of Christ like no one else would have done.

She was our mother, no matter our ages. She was a sister, a reliable friend

My Oga as I used to call her. The legend woman with the strength of a thousand men

    Always in fond memories

It was a privilege to know you, Aunty Biodun. It was a privilege to be associated with you.

You came into my life through my friendship with your son, Christian. We were at D’Overbroeck’s Tutorial College in Oxford where we sat for our A-levels.

You were my second Mother and a dear friend. You supported me through my Tertiary Education and you were a big influence in my life.

You were fearless and achieved all your objectives.

I throughly enjoyed our conversations and your wonderful sense of humour.

You were authentic and embraced all manner of people.

You saw opportunity where others saw problem. You didn’t say, Let somebody else do it, rather, it was I’ll take care of it.

You had a magnetic smile and it was always a joy to see you happy.

You were generous and gracious and so much fun to be with.
Full of life, full of energy.

It’s so hard to accept that you’re gone.

Bose and I loved you so very much and we will miss you greatly.

    Rest in Perfect Peace

    Sola Fowewe

  • Samson Posted July 2, 2019 8:42 pm

I was the reporter who interviewed you. The memory of that conversation has not left me. The passion with which you spoke left me stunned. (https://punchng.com/pregnancy-at-19-changed-my-life-lekki-british-school-owner/).
I remember we spoke after the interview was published. I asked if you liked it and you said you had been getting reactions from people. That phone conversation was brief. Your voice was low and unsure. I had never done an interview like that before. I was desperate for some feedback. I said I would call back later. But it never happened.
Today I was at the funeral. Seeing Pastor Adeboye’s tributes, ‘Tributes to a dear daughter’ immediately drew tears from my eyes. I remembered you told me during that interview that he came to personally inaugurate Lekki British School and in excitement he said, “My daughter, this is a big school, you have a big dream, and we serve a big God’.

  • Fadeke Fasan-Ukwade Posted September 9, 2019 6:50 pm

I met you just once, in your office at Lekki British International School. You exuded warmth, generosity and yet a certain shrewdness and force to be reckoned. I loved and admired you instantly but I knew I was too ill at the time to take up the post you were happy to offer. It was a brief return to Nigeria after over two decades. You understood what it takes to have taught over a decade in Britain. You explained your no-nonsense approach to discipline, but I saw through your heart of gold and in it a kindred spirit.
It is therefore with great sadness today that I learnt that you passed on to glory exactly two years after that remarkable meeting. My heart is heavy and my eyes are brimming, but I do not sorrow as one without the blessed hope – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14. You have passed on to your rest and reward, and we shall meet again.
Your legacy of Education that was birth of God, lives on in the hands of faithful men and women. Sleep well ma.
